ABERDEEN — Two children were feared dead in a house fire where three adults escaped.
Witnesses used a ladder Friday morning to help an elderly couple and a woman get out of the burning home, but the two children were unaccounted for, the fire department said.
Everyone in the house could have lost their lives if not for the efforts of the residents and police officers who arrived at the home before firefighters, Aberdeen Fire Chief Tom Hubbard told KXRO.
A neighbor who lives across the street saw the fire when she awoke.
“I heard someone screaming,” Bev Brown said. “The house was engulfed in flames, shooting out. It was terrible. It was awful.”
