EVERETT — Water samples taken from Pigeon Creek Beach showed elevated levels of bacteria after a sewer main break dumped waste into Port Gardner Bay on Thursday night.
Testing at Howarth Park revealed normal levels of bacteria, but the city is still warning people to avoid contact with the water and keeping the beaches closed.
Two pumps at the sewer lift station were submerged in the break, and it may be weeks before they are both fully operational. Temporary bypass pipes have been installed in the meantime.
