Pentagon stone completes Federal Way 9-11 memorial
South King Co. Fire and Rescue officials, including assistant chief Gordon Olson (second from left) stand next to a piece of limestone that was part of the building at the Pentagon in Washington, DC, before it was destroyed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The stone was delivered during a ceremony Monday at the Alaska Airlines cargo facility in Seatac, and will be part of a Sept. 11 memorial in Federal Way.
The limestone delivered by Alaska Air Cargo will complete a memorial in Federal Way that will be one of the few in the country that contains artifacts from all three 9/11 locations. The memorial also includes a 10-foot steel beam from the wreckage of the World Trade Center in New York and a rock from the airplane crash site in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
The Federal Way memorial is expected to be dedicated this Sept. 11.
