Get ready to ride rails this summer on the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad.
The old pufferbelly is getting up a head of steam to take passengers from the depot at Elbe along the foothills of Mount Rainier every weekend from June 14 to Oct. 19.
The two-hour excursions are only part of the fun. Visitors can tour the railroad museum’s Rod House to see the steam locomotives and restorations, the House of Gears, the steam sawmill, historic logging equipment and the shop.
The scenic railroad offers special events throughout the year, including barbecue trains with live music in July and August, and the Santa Express in November and December. Regular fares are $17 to $31 and kids 2 and younger ride free.
Find the depot at 54124 Mountain Highway E., Elbe. Check the website, mrsr.com, or call 888-steam-11.
