UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Rookie Chiney Ogwumike scored 18 points to help the Connecticut Sun win their first WNBA game of the season, a 71-59 victory over the Seattle Storm on Friday night.
Allison Hightower added 14 points and Kelsey Bone scored 13 for the Sun (1-3). Alyssa Thomas scored 10 points.
Crystal Langhorne scored 15 points to lead the Storm (0-3). She was the only player in double figures for Seattle. The Storm has yet to have more than one player score in double figures in any of their three games.
Connecticut led the majority of the contest. The Storm’s Camille Little made two free throws early in the third quarter to get Seattle within 58-50. Ogwumike made two free throws on the other end, and Bone turned a layup into a three-point play.
Ogwumike followed with a hook shot to push the Sun ahead 65-52 with over six minutes left.
Seattle, which shot just 37.3 percent from the floor for the game, couldn’t get any closer.
“Our effort was much better, especially in the beginning of the game, and as the game wore on, we broke down on some things defensively,” Seattle coach Brian Agler said. “I was not happy with our 10 turnovers in the first half. That hurt us a little bit.”
