GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida defeated Washington’s softball team 9-0 in the opening game of their NCAA Super Regionals series on Saturday in Gainesville, Fla.
“One game is one game in these three-game series,” Washington head coach Heather Tarr said. “The opportunity to play again will be tomorrow.”
The best two-out-of-three series between Florida (49-11) and Washington (36-14) continues Sunday with Game 2 at 9:00 a.m. on ESPN. Game 3, if necessary, is scheduled for noon on ESPN.
Florida’s Hannah Rogers pitched a four-hitter in the five-inning game, striking out five while walking two.
Kaitlin Inglesby (15-5) started for the Huskies, allowing four runs on five hits in three-plus innings. Bryanna Walker allowed five runs on three hits in her one inning on the mound.
The Gators scored one run in second and one run in third before scoring seven runs in the fourth inning. Aubree Munro had three hits and two RBI for Florida and Bailey Castro had two RBI for the Gators.
Victoria Hayward, Hooch Fagaly, Kylee Lahners and Kelli Suguro had hits for Washington.
