Class 4A

Lake Stevens vs. South Kitsap

When: Today, 10 a.m.

Where: Wright Field, Kent

Other regional teams: Kentridge, Eastlake

Scouting report: Going for their third district championship, the Vikings fell short, losing the title game to Cascade last Saturday. They also earned a doozy of a matchup. South Kitsap, which finished sixth in the final state poll, is led by Mac McCarty, the Narrows League 4A Most Valuable Player. South Kitsap blanked Tahoma in the district opener and beat Battle Ground to advance to the championship game. The Wolves lost to No. 1-ranked Puyallup 10-0 in the district title game. The winner gets the winner of the Kentridge-Eastlake game at 4 p.m.

Edmonds-Woodway vs. Puyallup

When: Today, 1 p.m.

Where: Heidelberg Park, Tacoma

Other regional teams: Gonzaga Prep, Battle Ground

Scouting report: The Warriors slid into the regionals with a late comeback win over Redmond and got the No. 1 team in the state for their efforts. Puyallup is 24-0 and has hardly a chink in its armor. The Vikings won their three district games by a combined score of 28-4 to win the West Central/Southwest District championship. Puyallup, which was nationally ranked at one point in the season, is led by mashers first baseman Quinn Rawson (.406 batting average, seven home runs), outfielder Darian Clemens (.443, 10 doubles) and third baseman Adam Stump (.474), and left-handed starter Luke Heimlich (0.57 earned run average, 9-0 record). The winner plays the winner of the Gonzaga Prep-Battle Ground game at 4 p.m.

Cascade vs. Gig Harbor

When: Today, 1 p.m.

Where: Everett Memorial Stadium

Other regional teams: Todd Beamer, Woodinville

Scouting report: Gig Harbor, which finished second in the Narrows 4A, gave No. 1-ranked Puyallup all it wanted and more in the district opener, battling the Vikings in a 3-2 loss. The Tides bounced back to beat Skyview and Union to punch their ticket to regionals (GH lost to Kentridge 22-4 to earn the No. 6 seed). Gig Harbor is led by all-league returners third baseman Sterling Brown, catcher Mark Sluys and pitcher/outfielder Conor Scanlan. The winner plays the winner of the Todd Beamer-Woodinville game at 4 p.m.

Archbishop Murphy vs. Fife

When: Today, 10 a.m.

Where: Cedarcrest H.S.

Other regional teams: North Kitsap, Lake Washington

Scouting report: After finishing third in the SPSL 2A, Fife got a nice couple of wins in the West Central 2A district tournament. Fife didn’t allow a run in the first two games it played, including a 17-0 win over Tyee in the opener, to advance to the semifinals. Fife got a dose of its own medicine, losing to Sumner 10-0, before beating North Kitsap 6-5 to earn the No. 3 seed out of the district and a date with Archbishop Murphy. Fife is led by sluggers Jaden Hassell (.443, 18 RBI) and infielder Connor Anderson (.467, 11 doubles), and pitcher Tanner Knapp (0.83, 5-2).
