Now for one who is coming to Everett.
Today the Tips announced the signing of Dallas-based forward Addison Runey to a WHL education contract. Runey is a 17-year-old who measures in at 5-foot-11 and 155 pounds. Last season he played for the Dallas Stars Elite U-16 team, registering 21 goals and 23 assists in 41 games.
Runey is an undrafted player who the Tips listed late last season, and he was running around the rink a bit during Everett’s playoff series against Seattle. So if you noticed a kid in a suit you didn’t recognize, it may have been him.
I honestly have no idea how good a player Runey is. In the press release his coach with the Stars describes him as hard to play against and having a little sandpaper to his game. Everett general manager Garry Davidson has drafted a lot of Americans the past two years, and he is quoted in the release saying he hopes Runey is the first of many Americans who will join the program.
Does this make up for not landing Tyson Jost? I doubt it. But it’s a start.
