EVERETT — The case of a former Monroe police sergeant facing child-molestation charges is now scheduled to go to trial in September.
Carlos Martinez, 59, made a brief appearance Friday in Snohomish County Superior Court. He is free pending trial.
The former Monroe School Board member is accused of instigating a sexual relationship in 2003 with a 14-year-old girl. He was the drug education officer for the girl’s elementary school classes in Monroe.
He has pleaded not guilty to the charges. Martinez told Washington State Patrol detectives that he didn’t have sex with the girl until she was 18, court papers said.
Martinez left the Monroe Police Department in 2009 because he was about to be fired after being accused of assaulting his wife.
