Regarding the letters “How can poor vote Republican?” and “Democrats need poor to be poor”: In all my years of being a United States citizen, I have always been thankful to have been born in this country. I have always had a strong belief in allegiance I give to one nation under God. I have been educated enough to know historical benefits, yes, and spiritual benefits that come from a nation that has at least a two-party system. A nation of people who have opportunities that no other nation has, as different as we all are, to dream dreams and achieve whatever we want to achieve. A united nation of people working together.
It has always been my understanding that all through history wars and the terrible carnage of property and human life has been caused by pride, arrogance and grandiosity. These qualities of leadership throughout history have never created peace and prosperity. Political and religious wars have destroyed and continue to destroy men, women and children of this world. It saddens me to see this lack of knowledge and arrogance taking its ugly grip in our country. Too many lives of our military men and women, rich and poor, have fought, died and been wounded in the wars just this past century. You’d think that if we claim to be “civilized” we would have learned how to behave ourselves! Our military members are returning home to find their country divided and wallowing in hate, fear and injustice and spiritual decay. What must they think!
I still have faith and hope that there are enough good people among the rich and the poor that we, of the United States can pull together to be the shining beacon to the world, and that we are still one nation under God undivided with liberty and justice for all. We should really understand how we can have peace and prosperity in the years to come. Together we stand. Is it just a wish or a dream?
