SPU gymnast earns All-America honors

SEATTLE — Seattle Pacific University gymnast Kai Tindall was named a second-team Academic All-American last week by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Tindall, a senior from Brier, is a graduate of Mountlake Terrace High School. She tied for first place in the floor exercise at the 2014 USA Gymnastics Women’s Collegiate Championship and holds the top grade-point average (3.74 in integrated studies) on the Seattle Pacific squad.

Tindall is the daughter of SPU coach Laurel Tindall.

EvCC Athletes of the Year

David Ware and Dani Norsby have been named the Male and Female Athletes of the Year at Everett Community College.

Ware was the starting point guard for the Everett men’s basketball team. He played in all 28 games this past season and was voted a first-team North Region All-Star and the North Region Defensive Player of the Year. He has signed to play at Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii, next season.

Norsby was the starting catcher and captain on the Trojans’ women’s softball team. She hit .240, collected a team-best 26 walks and sported a .416 on-base percentage. She is scheduled to play next season at the University of Jamestown, an NAIA school in Jamestown, North Dakota.

Two Trojans sign letters

A pair of Everett CC men’s basketball players, Theo VandenEkart and Jake Allen, recently signed letters of intent.

VandenEkart, a sophomore guard from Sultan, will play next season at Quest University Canada. As a sophomore this past season, he ranked second on the team in scoring at 17.3 points per game.

Quest University Canada is located in Squamish, British Columbia.

Allen signed to play at Avila University. A sophomore guard from Australia, he averaged 11.3 points this past season.

Avila University is an NAIA school located in Kansas City, Missouri.
