A pair of Snohomish High School players were named to the 2014 Washington State Soccer Coaches Association Class 4A All-State Boys Soccer first team on Thursday, and Panthers head coach Dan Pingrey was voted coach of the year.
Snohomish captured the 4A state championship last month.
Snohomish senior forward Uriel Herrera, The Herald’s Boys Soccer Player of the Year, and senior defenseman Dekotah Keough were both named to the 4A first team. Pingrey was selected coach of the year after leading the Panthers to their third state title. Pingrey also guided the Snohomish boys to state championships in 2000 and 2006.
Snohomish teammates Gus Baxter, a junior defenseman, and Ryan Peters, a senior goalkeeper, made the second team.
A pair of Glacier Peak teammates, junior midfielder Greyden Saunders and senior defender Matt Johnston, were named to the Class 3A first team. Shorecrest senior forward Chris Iacolucci and Shorewood senior defender Justin Collins also made the first team.
Stanwood senior forward Laurence Wanambisi was named to the 3A second team.
A trio of Archbishop Murphy players made the 2A all-state first team: senior forward Christian Thode, sophomore midfielder Brady Henderson and senior defender Tyler Ptacek. Teammate James Bettag, a senior, earned a spot on the second team as a defender.
In 1A, King’s teammates Taylor Moe, a senior, and Ryan Fransen, a junior, were named first-team all-state as a forward and a midfielder, respectively.
Notable honorable mentions included Cascade sophomore forward Samuel Agyei, and Snohomish junior forward Tanner Corrie and junior midfielder Josh Dombal in 4A; and Marysville Pilchuck senior forward Fabian Panduro-Galvan, Stanwood senior defender Chase Lauinger and Glacier Peak senior goalkeeper Lucas MacMillen in 3A.
The teams were selected by members of the WSSCA.
