EVERETT — The 2014 NHL draft has arrived, but it’s unlikely the Everett Silvertips will be involved this year.
The draft commences over two days in Philadelphia, with the first round taking place tonight and rounds two-through-seven occurring Saturday. However, there are no Everett players considered as likely selections.
Only the Silvertips’ Austin Lotz, ranked 22nd among North American goaltenders, was listed in the NHL Central Scouting Service’s final rankings. A year ago, Lotz was passed over in the NHL draft after being ranked 10th among North American goalies.
Three other Everett players — forwards Ivan Nikolishin, Tyler Sandhu and Dawson Leedahl — were ranked by Central Scouting during the regular season. However, all had dropped off the list by the time the final rankings were released in April.
The last time Everett didn’t have a player drafted was 2011. Last year. Everett had two players selected. Defenseman Mirco Mueller was picked 18th overall in the first round by the San Jose Sharks and defenseman Ben Betker was taken in the sixth round by the Edmonton Oilers.
