RENTON — The fire chief in the south Seattle suburb of Renton says his department’s rescue swimmers pulled two people from Lake Washington on Monday evening near Renton’s Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park.
KOMO-TV reports that Chief Mark Peterson says the swimmers were outside the park’s sanctioned swimming area when they began to struggle.
Peterson says one of those rescued was taken to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center in critical condition and the other was driven to a nearby hospital in stable condition. He didn’t have additional information on the two.
The chief says the rescue swimmers program was implemented this year to save time in drowning situations. Unlike dive teams, the rescue swimmers don’t have to stop to put on diving equipment.
