What: Polygonatum is a popular woodland perennial also known as Solomon’s Seal. Its graceful arching stems feature nodding white bell-shaped flowers and is an excellent choice for a shady garden spot. It spreads slowly and becomes a choice vertical stand in the border. This plant works well in bouquets during the peak season as well as in the fall when its color turns to yellow. It is low maintenance and thrives in a moist cool fertile situation.
Sun or shade: The optimum condition for Solomon’s Seal is dappled shade, but it grows beautifully in full shade as well.
Size: Mature size is approximately 2 feet tall
See it: At the WSU Snohomish County Master Gardener Demonstration Garden at Jennings Memorial Park, 6915 Armar Road, Marysville.
