Downtown Seattle construction highest since 2005

SEATTLE — Fifty projects worth $2.8 billion are under construction in downtown Seattle and 50 more are considered active because they have permits or are ready to begin.

The Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce reports (http://bit.ly/U5xApp) the 100 active projects are the most since tracking began in 2005.

A recent report from the Metropolitan Improvement District/Downtown Seattle Association says about two-thirds of the construction is housing. Nearly 10,000 apartment and condo units are in the pipeline. Four hotels with a total of more than 600 rooms are under construction.

And, nearly 3.2 million square feet of office space is under construction — nearly double the amount last year. Much of that is the new headquarters for Amazon.com.
