As the Washington state champion, the North Everett Little League Intermediate baseball team (ages 11-13) is headed to Nogales, Ariz., this week for the West Regional tournament.
North Everett faces Montana on Thursday, Hawaii on Friday, Arizona on Saturday and Northern California on Monday. From there, advancement depends on the team’s record in the four pool-play games.
During the regular season, North Everett posted a 23-2 record and outscored its opponents 319-56. The 10 teams in North Everett’s league represent Little League organizations from District 1, which covers Snohomish County.
North Everett won the district tournament, defeating Mill Creek for the championship, then breezed through the state tournament in Snohomish with one-sided wins over Issaquah (12-1), Chinook/Soundview (10-1), West Seattle (20-0) and West Seattle again in the title game (14-3).
In the championship contest, played last Thursday, winning pitcher Carson Speegle struck out seven in five innings and Ryan Tebatabai followed with two shutout innings. Dakota Talt hit a two-run home run.
In addition to Speegle, Tebatebai and Talt, the North Everett’s roster includes Tyler Bates, Nick Cortes, David Eisenkraft, William George, Tyson Lewis, Alex Livingstone, Caden Lockhart, Jonathan Murphy and Aaron Robertson. The manager is Jeff Lockhart and the coaches are Gil Acevedo and Doug Speegle.
Intermediate teams play on a diamond that is larger than a standard Little League field but smaller than a regulation baseball diamond.
The team is raising money for its trip to Arizona. A donation link is available on the team’s website at www.northeverettll.org.
