Everett police to open new substation

EVERETT — Officials plan to open a new Everett Police Department substation in the north end of town.
The details are being worked out, but the idea is to sign a low-cost lease for a small office space in the Wiggums Hollow Park area, officer Aaron Snell said.
“So we can be closer to the community we serve,” he said.
The department has two precincts with front counters open to the public, downtown and near the Everett Mall. There also are two substations inside fire halls in central Everett, Snell said.
“Satellite offices allow officers to stay close to their beats or work areas and not have to return to the main station or south precinct every time they need to make a phone call or work on a report,” he said.
The new proposed substation would be the first one formed in partnership with community service organizations, Snell said.
Police have been working with the Everett Housing Authority, Domestic Violence Services and the Boys & Girls Club.
“Those relationships will grow with the location, and just like Casino Road and other areas within the city, there’s a need for positive, proactive policing within the community,” Snell said.
The substation likely would have room for one or two officers to work, Snell said. It won’t be staffed around-the-clock.
Everett police also have discussed a potential substation in the Casino Road neighborhood.
