SPOKANE — The Spokane Indians showed why their offense is considered one of the best in the Northwest League on Saturday.
The Indians spotted the Everett AquaSox an early 3-0 lead and then scored 12 unanswered runs en route a 12-3 win.
Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Zach Cone each had three hits and scored three runs, while Marcus Greene had three RBI for Spokane (24-12), which finished with 16 hits total.
Everett’s Kristian Brito hit his first home run of the season, a three-run shot in the second inning off Indians starting pitcher Nick Gardewine that opened the scoring.
But that was all the runs for the Sox (10-26), who had just three hits, with none coming after the second.
Everett starting pitcher Dan Altavilla (0-2) managed to keep the Indians at bay through the first two innings before Greene’s infield single in the third drove in the Indians’ first run of the game.
Spokane then batted around in the fourth, scoring four runs and knocking Altavilla out of the game.
Fernando Vivili hit a two-run double to tie the score and Altavilla walked Seth Spivey with the bases loaded to force in the go-ahead run.
With the bases still loaded, the Sox right-hander could’ve escaped without further damage after inducing a comebacker off the bat of Greene. Altavilla threw home to get the second out and start a potential 1-2-3 double play, but catcher Luke Guarnaccia’s throw to first went down the right-field line to allow another run to score.
The Indians continued to batter Sox pitching, scoring six runs in two innings off reliever Leoncio Munoz.
Zach Cone hit a solo home run in the fifth and Spokane scored five more runs in the sixth to blow open the game.
After giving up the home run to Brito in the second, Gardewine (5-1) allowed just one baserunner in his final four innings of work to earn the win.
