KENT, Wash. — Kent police say no officers were seriously injured in a shootout with a suspect who was killed. Four officers were treated for burns when a bullet hit a tank of propane, causing a large explosion.
The incident began Sunday when officers responded to a report of a suspicious man in the parking lot of a Kent motel. Police say he attempted to assault an officer, pulled a gun and ran.
Officers surrounded the area and found the man behind a landscaping business. Police say he shot at officers and five officers returned fire, killing him.
The gunfire punctured a propane tank, setting off the explosion. Four officers were treated by fire department medics and transported to Valley Medical Center in Renton in stable condition.
