SPOKANE — Spokane’s Derek Thompson pitched seven shutout innings as the Indians clinched the Northwest League North Division first-half title with a 3-0 victory over the Everett AquaSox on Monday.
Thompson struck out 10 and allowed just three hits. The Indians finished tied with the Vancouver Canadians for first place at 25-13, but Spokane earned the playoff berth based on head-to-head record (4-2) against Vancouver.
Everett concluded the first half at 11-27.
Sox left-hander Ryan Yarbrough threw three innings in a scheduled shortened start and gave up one run on Marcus Greene’s first-inning RBI single. Reliever Ramire Cleto finished the final five innings but was touched up for two runs in the fourth. Jose Trevino hit a solo shot, his league-leading eighth home run of the season, and Fernando Vivili doubled in Juremi Profar.
Sox second baseman Taylor Smart batted 2-for-4 and was a part of two of the three double plays Everett turned in the game.
