SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Tight end Vernon Davis ended his offseason holdout and reported to 49ers training camp on time Wednesday.
Safety C.J. Spillman caught Davis’ return on video, posting to Instagram images of Davis being welcomed back in the locker room by several players.
Davis skipped June’s mandatory minicamp and earlier offseason workouts in hopes of a better contract. His deal expires after the 2015 season.
Davis already exposed himself to $70,000 in fines by not attending June’s mandatory minicamp, and he could have been fined $30,000 daily for not reporting to training camp. He also forfeited a $200,000 workout bonus for not participating in the 49ers’ offseason program.
Guard Alex Boone is not expected to report on time for training camp, entrenching himself further in a contract drive that also saw him boycott the offseason program. Boone has two years remaining on a deal that pays him a $2 million base salary this season.
The 49ers were spotted on the practice field at 11 a.m., apparently stretching for a conditioning test. Rookies reported a week ago while quarterbacks and select veterans arrived Friday.
