The Seattle Seahawks earned a bye with their 20-6 victory over the St. Louis Rams on Sunday, and that week off will be a welcome one after a physical game that saw several key players leave with injuries.
Linebacker K.J. Wright left the game with a dislocated finger, but Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Wright will “for sure” be back for Seattle’s divisional round game in two weeks. And if you’ve ever doubted that football players aren’t like most of us, consider that Wright said he had to have his hand stitched up because a bone was protruding from his finger, yet he tried to stay in the game.
The status on two other injured players is less clear, Carroll said, but both safety Jeron Johnson, a key special teams player who dislocated his elbow, and defensive tackle Jordan Hill, who sprained a knee, appear to have a shot at getting back next week.
“We’ll have to wait and see what that’s all about,” Carroll said. “The two weeks will really help… Fortunately (Johnson’s elbow) went back together there on the field, and that’s a good thing.”
Hill, who stood at his locker conducting postgame interviews with an ice pack on his knee, told reporters “I feel good.”
The Seahawks were without starting receiver Jermaine Kearse, who injured a hamstring a week earlier, as well as center Max Unger, who has missed six games with an ankle injury. Carroll said Unger will be ready to go when practice resumes later in the week, though he did not give an update on Kearse.
