Seahawks sign veteran tackle Eric Winston, WR Randall Carroll
Season finally starts for me today! Looking forward to chasing a ring with the Seahawks!! Time go to work!
— Eric Winston (@ericwinston) July 29, 2014
Winston, who is also currently the president of the NFL Players Association, spent the first six years of his career in Houston before spending a year each in Kansas City and Arizona. Winston has started every game since the 2007 season. His background in zone blocking systems, especially in Houston, should make Winston a good fit in Tom Cable’s scheme.
With Bowie sidelined, rookie Justin Britt has been getting all of the first-team work, and has struggled at times, particularly in pass protection. Cable noted on Sunday that while this much first-team work was good for Britt, it probably wasn’t the best situation for the team. Adding the veteran Winston should help the Seahawks solidify the position.
While Winston has enjoyed a very distinguished career, he might be best known to Seahawks fans for the play against Seattle last year when he was flattened by safety Kam Chancellor.
UPDATE: The Seahawks annouced the signing of Winston, as well as that of CB Terrell Thomas and WR Randall Carroll. CB Chandler Fenner and G Bronson Irwin were waived and WR Taylor Price was placed on IR.
