Have a foot-stompin’ barrel-of-laughs good time at an event for a great cause.
Friday night’s “A Concert in the Garden” is a benefit to raise research money and awareness for Usher syndrome, a genetic disease that causes severe hearing loss and blindness. The event, hosted by Vision for a Cure, includes food, drinks, auctions and entertainment.
The emcee is comedian Pat Cashman, co-creator of “Almost Live!” and the reboot, “The 206.” Musicians are country artist Jesse Taylor and folk-stomp Americana band Br’er Rabbit.
Taylor is the quintessential singing cowboy from Arlington, he began roping at age 3, playing guitar at 4 and rode his first bull at 14. He started writing songs at 16 and two years later went on the road in his pick-up truck with his dog. He recorded his first album in his mother’s kitchen.
Br’er Rabbit revamps classic string band instrumentation with homespun percussion and the integration of six-string ukulele and cello. Voted Best Band in their home city of Bellingham in 2013.
