BEND, Ore. — Authorities say an 18-year-old who disappeared shoeless from a wilderness program in Central Oregon has been found.
State Police Lt. Gregg Hastings says searchers on horseback Thursday morning found Kevin Mulert of Deerfield, Illinois, about 1.5 miles southeast of what was described as a “therapeutic wilderness program.” Police haven’t identified the program at its request.
Mulert was described as unharmed. A National Guard helicopter was to take him to Bend for an examination.
He was reported missing Wednesday morning from the camp in the sparsely populated area about 60 miles southeast of Bend.
Police said Mulert was not wearing shoes, wasn’t dressed for the weather and was unfamiliar with the remote area.
