Geologist hired at Lynnwood’s Professional Services Industries
Professional Service Industries, Inc. announced that Richard Fredricksen has joined its Lynnwood operations office as a project geologist. Fredricksen has been a project geologist in Washington and Oregon over a 20-year career, mostly serving the Oregon Department of Transportation. He received a bachelor of science in geology from Central Washington University.
Frontier general manager wins Red Cross award
Frontier Communications Corp. has announced that Ken Baldwin, general manager of the Everett office, recently received the Red Cross Snohomish County Chairman’s Award for his support and leadership. The award was given by outgoing board chairwoman Kim Buike. Baldwin has been a Snohomish County Red Cross board member for four years and is former co-chairman of the philanthropy committee.
Mukilteo resident joined Puget Sound Bank
Curtis Drury of Mukilteo has joined Bellevue-based Puget Sound Bank as vice president, senior relationship manager. Drury is a graduate of the University of Washington and a longtime supporter of youth athletics. He currently coaches youth baseball and soccer teams.
Coast VP named Rotary governor for western Washington, parts of B.C.
Coastal Community Bank’s executive vice president has been installed as governor for Rotary District 5050, overseeing Rotary clubs in western Washington and the Fraser Valley area of British Columbia. Lyle E. Ryan is a member of the Everett Rotary club and has been part of the service club for most of his adult life. He has held many positions including club treasurer, president and assistant governor. He has been married to P.J. for 28 years and they have two adult children, Ramah and Ben.

Turner’s grocery celebrated anniversary
Turner’s Neighborhood Grocery in Lake Stevens celebrated its 25th anniversary on Aug. 2 with a customer appreciation event for its customers. The locally loved mom-and-pop grocery actually opened in 1922. But current owner Doug Turner bought the store in 1989 and continued the tradition of serving the local community. Every five years of his ownership, Turner has hosted a customer appreciation barbecue for his customers.

Windermere hosts sneaker drive
Windermere offices in the Seattle area, including Windermere-Shoreline, Windermere-Lake Stevens, and Windermere Property Management–Edmonds, are serving as collection centers for the company’s “Kicks for Kids” sneaker drive for low income youth. The public is asked to drop off new or gently used sneakers in kid’s sizes one to nine at any Seattle area Windermere office through Aug. 15.
Scholarships awarded to youths for business camp
Alaska USA Federal Credit Union has provided scholarships to Washington Business Week for five high school students in Washington state. The four-week business camp helps high school students learn about real-life business scenarios through production, marketing and finance competitions. Alaska USA employees also help to judge the event. This is the fourth year the company has participated in Washington Business Week.

Snohomish financial adviser hosts coffee club
Sterling Gurney, a local Edward Jones financial adviser, will host his monthly coffee club gathering at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Edward Jones office located at 602 Second St., Suite C, in Snohomish. The public is invited to this courtesy event. Gurney hosts a coffee club meeting on the first Thursday of every month.
Latino Expo planned at EdCC
Edmonds Community College is partnering with the Latino Education Training Institute to host the Latino Expo. This free event is open to the public from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot near Snohomish Hall, 20000 68th Ave. W., Lynnwood. The event will feature live performances, food and activities for the whole family.
‘Ice Cream-O-Rama’ planned at Snohomish shop
Snoqualmie Ice Cream has announced its fourth Annual Ice Cream-O-Rama. The event is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Snoqualmie Ice Cream Shoppe and Mini-Farm, 21106 86th Ave. SE, Snohomish. The admission is free. Attendees will have the option to purchase tickets for $1 bites of ice cream, snacks and drinks. The Solarize South County Community Coalition is seeking applications from qualified community organizations interested in having a donated solar photovoltaic system installed at their facility. Conservation Corps hiring for 288 jobs
The Washington Conservation Corps, a part of the Washington Department of Ecology, has opened 288 jobs that help protect and restore the environment. The jobs are for 18-to-25-year-olds, with no age restrictions for veterans of the Iraq War and their dependents. In addition to paid career training, members receive an AmeriCorps Education Award of $5,645 (scholarship) upon successful completion of one year of service (1,700 hours). Basic medical benefits are provided and educational loan forbearance is available. Apply online at www.ecy.wa.gov/wcc.

Everett ranked 11th on state’s best cities to raise children
Estately, a national real estate search site, has published a study naming Washington’s 20 best cities to raise children. Everett ranked 11th on the list. Everett is home to top five ranking public schools and has the sixth highest number of preschools per capita. Kennewick made the top of the list and Kent made the bottom.
Frontier to provide Wi-Fi at Tulalip concert series
Frontier Communications Corporation has announced a partnership with the Tulalip Resort Casino to provide free wi-fi for the summer concert series that began in July. In an effort to enhance concertgoers’ experience, Frontier has installed a temporary free wi-fi hotspot so the audience can share pictures, videos, tweets and personal experiences with friends and family.

Frontier Communications has added 10 new HD channels to its FiOS TV channel lineup in all FiOS TV service areas. The channels include Crime &Investigation HD, Cooking Channel HD, Disney Jr. HD, FXM HD, Fox Sports 2 HD, H2 HD, Hallmark Channel HD, Ovation HD, Oxygen HD, ReelzChannel HD. Last month, Frontier added MLB Network.
Loans available for small businesses
The Washington State Department of Commerce has announced a new revolving loan fund that will help increase small business access to credit through the Washington Small Business Credit Initiative. With the new Collateral Support Program, SSBCI funds will reduce banks’ credit risks and help programs developed by the state to use U.S. Small Business Administration loans to finance more businesses.
Submit ‘Super Kid’ photos for Group Health contest
Group Health has launched a ‘Super Kid Photo Contest’ to recognize dynamic youngsters doing amazing things while supporting their communities at the same time. The winning photographer will receive $1,000 from Group Health to go toward a local non-profit of his or her choosing that supports children. In addition, Group Health will donate $250 on behalf of two runners-up.
Parents or guardians can go to http://onegoal.ghc.org/superkid to upload a snapshot of their child doing something adorable, brave or strong. Nominate a Washington state non-profit organization that supports children. Share with family and friends to vote.
The contest, open to all Washington state residents, runs through Aug. 17. The winners will be announced Aug. 20.
