Village Theatre’s production of the musical “Les Miserables,” which played in Everett during January and February, has been nominated for seven Gregory Awards.
The Gregory Awards, administered by the nonprofit Theatre Puget Sound since 1998, honor the outstanding achievements of professional theaters in greater Seattle area.
The award is named for the late Gregory Falls, a former chairman of the University of Washington drama department, who is generally credited with setting the stage for the region’s current vibrant theater scene.
Awards in 18 categories will be presented on the evening of Oct. 20 at the Moore Theatre in downtown Seattle.
Village’s “Les Miserables” is nominated for outstanding musical.
The production was directed by Steve Tomkins, who is nominated for outstanding director.
“Les Miserables” starred Greg Stone, of Camano Island, in the role of Jean Valjean. Stone is up for outstanding actor in a musical.
Nick DeSantis and Kate Jaeger, who played the comic Thenardiers in the musical, are nominated for outstanding supporting actor and actress.
Scott Fyfe is up for the scenic design award and Tom Sturge is nominated for the lighting design award for Village’s “Les Miz.”
In addition, Kathryn Van Meter is nominated for outstanding choreography for the Village Theatre production of “Xanadu.”
Other nominees come from most of the professional theater groups in the region, including the 5th Avenue Theatre, Seattle Repertory Theatre, A Contemporary Theatre, Seattle Shakespeare Company, Book-It Repertory Theatre, Seattle Children’s Theatre, Taproot Theatre Company, Washington Ensemble Theatre, New Century Theatre Company and Sound Theatre Company.
