Upcoming outdoor events: Sea creatures, free parks, more

Forest fun: A number of events are planned throughout the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, including campfire talks, guided walks, historical talks and more. Check out what’s going on here.

Moonlight Beach Adventure: Look at sea creatures brought to shore by volunteer scuba divers from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday at Marina Beach, 650 Admiral Way S., Edmonds. Bring a flashlight. Free. Call 425.771.0227 for more information.

River: Learn about the restoration of the Elwha River at 7 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Northwest Stream Center. A 30-minute version of the film “Return of the River: Changing Course” will be shown. The event is free but registration is required at 425-316-8592.

Historic ships: The Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain are in Everett through Sunday. They will be offering sails and walk-on tours. Get all the details here. They will also be in Kirkland from Aug. 25 to Sept. 1. Get more info here.

Free: State parks are free on Aug. 25 in honor of the birthday of the National Parks Service. No Discover Pass is required for day use at state parks. All national parks will also be free that day, including Mount Rainier and Olympic national parks. North Cascades National Park is always free.

Raptors: See live raptors at 7 p.m. Aug. 27 at the Northwest Stream Center. Kestrel SkyHawk of Sarvey Wildlife Center will bring a large golden eagle and other raptors, including owls and hawks; $7 for center members, $10 for nonmembers. Call 425-316-8592 to register.

Bird Fest: The Puget Sound Bird Fest is Sept. 5-7 in Edmonds. The event includes speakers, guided walks, field trips, exhibits and events for kids. Get more info here.

Learn to bird: Learn about birds and how to identify them at two upcoming classes, one on Sept. 18 in Marysville and one on Oct. 9 in Edmonds. Classes are $17. Get more info here.

Mountain biking: Stevens Pass Bike Park has upcoming gravity clinics. Riders spend time at the bike park while receiving expert coaching from Jill Kintner and Bryn Atkinson. Instruction is for intermediate to advanced riders and includes info on technical skills, bike set up, reading the terrain, race strategy and individual instruction. Clinics are Sept. 27 for women and Sept. 28 for men; $250. Call 206-812-7844 to register.
