Regarding the letter on immigration, “House just needs to OK legislation”: The writer is out of touch with what’s going on. He says the Boehner-led House of Representatives failed to take up legislation passed by the Senate. Did he even look at that legislation and the unacceptable strings attached to it? Doubtful.
He blames the tea party Republicans for lack of action. Nonsense. Over 360 bills have been passed by the House, the majority of which have bipartisan support that deal with Immigration, job creation, tweaks to the ACA and other important topics. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid won’t even let these items come up for discussion, let alone get voted on. He and the Democratic-controlled Senate are blocking everything the House sends over.
The House is operating as a legislative body should, working to pass legislation that would improve many problems in this country. The Senate is being run by a dictator, who blocks everything. So who is the Party of No? Senate Democrats are the primary problem here. The writer says President Obama should not share blame. Really? He does nothing while Harry Reid leads a do-nothing Senate. Obama just rails against House Republicans.
One way to stop the logjam is to remove Harry Reid as majority leader. This could happen if Republicans take over the majority in the Senate. The result would be a flood of legislation moving forward, and in some cases back, as the back and forth process is supposed to work in Congress. Then the president could sign many of these, maybe veto some, and the system would be working again as it should. Direct your frustration at Reid and the Senate and you’ll be a lot closer to the source of the problem.
