I agree with the outrage over President Obama’s vacations, “while the world burns,” as one letter-writer so aptly put it. There he is at Martha’s Vineyard again, adding to the 129 days he’s already taken. Sure, George Bush had taken 381 days by this time in his presidency, but at least he was clearing brush which prevents forest fires. OK, there was that one time he stopped to denounce terrorism and then asked the press to “watch this swing” and fired off a golf ball. But brush clearing, mostly, with excellent camera angles. Besides, it was a darn good swing.
I have no idea how our president thinks he can keep in touch when he’s that far from the White House. I know I pull over to a pay phone once in a while and check in, but I’ve never seen one on a golf course, and I bet he doesn’t even carry quarters the way I do. In fact, I have one of those coin dispensers in my car, just in case I hear something important on the radio. Have you ever seen the president with a radio in his golf cart? Or a coin dispenser? Not to mention an extension cord. Me neither.
I wish when I went on vacation I could just shut out the world like Obama does. What a sweet deal. And lazy. But what did you expect, right?
