BOISE, Idaho — The Everett AquaSox stayed alive in the race for the second and final playoff spot out of the Northwest League’s North Division on Thursday night, defeating the Boise Hawks 13-8 victory in 10 innings.
Tri-City and Vancouver are now tied for first place in the North Division, with Everett 21/2 games behind with four contests remaining on its schedule. The Sox have one more game in Boise on Friday night before finishing the regular season with a three-game series at Tri-City.
In a game that featured four lead changes and three ties, the AquaSox had the last burst of offense, scoring five times in the top of the 10th as the Boise defense unraveled.
The Hawks committed five errors in the game, two of which came in the 10th, along with three wild pitches that allowed two of the Sox’ runs to score in the frame.
Trey Cochran-Gill (2-0) earned the victory on the mound for Everett, working 21/3 scoreless innings. Kody Kerski pitched around a one-out walk in the ninth to nail down the win in a game that took four hours and 19 minutes to complete.
Back-to-back singles by Austin Cousino and Chris Mariscal began the five-run rally in the 10th, and the top two hitters in the Everett order combined to go 8-for-13 on Thursday as the Sox pounded out a season-high 20 hits.
An error and a wild pitch plated the first two runs, and an RBI double by Phillips Castillo plated the third.
After a walk, Sheehan Planas-Arteaga laced a two-run double to center field that gave the Sox a five-run advantage.
