NEW YORK — Portland Timbers defender Norberto Paparatto has been suspended for a game after elbowing Seattle’s Chad Marshall in the back of the head during Sunday’s game.
Paparatto also was fined an undisclosed amount and will miss Portland’s game Saturday at Vancouver.
The Argentine was shown a yellow card for the collision in the 39th minute. Both players went up for a ball in the air, and Paparatto’s arm flew out in front of him. It made contact with Marshall, who has a history of head injuries and missed 17 games due to concussions in 2007.
