Injured hiker plucked from Mt. Pugh
The man, 28, was seriously injured but conscious, said Shari Ireton, a spokeswoman for the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office. He reportedly fell about 50 feet within a quarter mile of the mountain's top.
Crews learned of the situation about 1:15 p.m. and a helicopter rescue team was on scene within about two hours, providing medical assistance.
SnoHAWK attempted to hoist the victim to safety but had to abort because of weather, Ireton said. Just before 10 p.m., however, the sheriff's office reported that the helicopter was able to move back in and the victim was gathered up for transport to an area hospital.
Volunteers from several mountain rescue groups assisted. They were prepared to pack the man down the difficult trail.
