EVERETT — Gov. Jay Inslee will be in town Oct. 1 for the grand opening of Everett Community College’s Advanced Manufacturing Education and Training Center (AMTEC), which starts classes later this month.
The new center is focused on training students for high-demand manufacturing and aerospace jobs. It has six programs: introduction to manufacturing; precision machining; composite materials; welding and fabrication; technical design; and quality assurance.
“Students at AMTEC will train using the latest technology, learning in-demand advanced manufacturing skills that employers want,” Everett CC President David Beyer said in a news release. “The programs at AMTEC lead to family-wage jobs — the kind of work that supports our entire community.”
There are more than 200 manufacturing businesses in Snohomish County.
All of the programs lead to a professional certificate or college degree.
Money to run the center comes in part from a three-year National Science Foundation grant worth nearly $900,000 and awarded in June 2013.
AMTEC is housed in a renovated warehouse owned by the college on the east side of its campus. The college paid $3.75 million to remodel the 37,000-square-foot facility at 909 N. Broadway this year.
Classes start Sept. 22.
