SEATTLE — A man who survived a gunshot to the chest last year at a Seattle parks building is suing the city of Seattle.
Bill Keller’s lawsuit claims that officials didn’t follow workplace policies when the alleged shooter exhibited obvious signs of mental illness.
The Seattle Times says Carolyn Piksa, an employee with Seattle Parks and Recreation, was charged with assault in the March 8, 2013, incident. She is accused of shooting Bill Keller and allegedly pointing her .357-caliber revolver at another parks employee.
Piksa has been undergoing treatment at Western State Hospital and has not been arraigned on the charges. A competency hearing in her case is set for later this month.
Keller’s lawsuit in King County Superior Court seeks unspecified damages.
A spokeswoman for Seattle’s city attorney declined to comment on the pending litigation.
