SPOKANE — The Washington Department of Transportation said Monday morning that Interstate 90 has reopened in both directions at Liberty Lake near the Washington-Idaho border.
Leaking vapors from a tanker truck had prompted the I-90 shutdown on Sunday afternoon. Later, an emergency alert advised people within a half-mile to remain indoors.
The tanker truck was carrying about 7,000 gallons of a chemical called anhydrous trimethylamine from Florida to Moses Lake.
Two police officers complained of throat irritation and headaches, but a Spokane Valley Fire spokesman said Sunday there wasn’t any imminent public risk.
According to DuPont, the chemical is used in the manufacture of solvents, animal feed supplements and products for the paper, oil and gas industries.
