STANWOOD — The Glacier Peak volleyball team rebounded from a first set loss to take three straight sets and defeat undefeated Stanwood 3-1 Thursday night in a Wesco 3A contest.
According to GP head coach Christoper Pratt, it is the first time Glacier Peak has defeated Stanwood in school history.
“The girls started buying into the gameplan and the way we train,” Pratt said. “…I’m really proud of them tonight.”
The Grizzlies squeeked out a highly competitve second set which provided a momentum boost as Stanwood was never able to get back in control.
Glacier Peak used a balanced attack with Natalie Rasmussen finishing with 22 digs, Mikala Pratt collecting 26 assists and Julia Stepanchenko and Lauren Sanders combining for 26 kills and 15 digs.
“Stanwood could have easily rolled over us the way we were playing but we put up a lot of fight in that second game,” Pratt said. “…Winning the second game made Stanwood question our competitiveness and allowed us to get on a roll,”
Thursday’s contest gave the Grizzlies their first victory of the season. They are now 1-2 overall. The Spartans are now 2-1 overall.
