A reader asks: “What is going on at 41st Street just east of I5? The red light has been flashing at the intersection for what seems like months.”
That particular traffic signal is owned and maintained by the state Department of Transportation. But city of Everett traffic engineer Timothy Miller helps us by sharing the interesting answer: “In summary, the signal was damaged some time ago by a dump truck passing through the signal with the dump bed up. It hit the mast arm and twisted the entire signal pole and foundation, severing the cables underground. WSDOT removed the damaged pole and mast arm and the signal was put into flashing operation. The City installed stop signs for the westbound direction that had no flashing signals because of the damage. The good news is that WSDOT recently was able to hire a contractor to replace the 11-foot-deep signal foundation and the signal was able to be put back into operation this week.”
