OAK HARBOR — A 22-year-old man was arrested Sunday morning after reportedly attacking a 27-year-old Oak Harbor woman.
Island County sheriff’s deputies were called just before 9 a.m. after reports of screams in the 2300 block of West Beach Road.
The victim told police she had given an acquaintance a ride, and when they arrived, he dragged her out of the car and choked her.
She was able to escape and drive away.
Police believe the man then broke into a vacant house through a window. They eventually found him hiding inside another garage in the neighborhood, trying to steal a car.
He was booked for investigation of attempted car theft, residential burglary, second-degree assault and multiple warrants related to his probation.
