MONROE — An 82-year-old woman has died after being struck by a bus Thursday night while walking across Main Street.
Marion Allred was on her way to a community theater production of “Hello Dolly” at the Frank Wagner Auditorium when the accident occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m.
She was walking across a stretch of road in the 700 block of Main Street when she was struck by a Community Transit bus in the westbound lane, Monroe Police Department spokeswoman Debbie Willis said. She was not in a crosswalk.
Allred was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett. She died early Friday morning.
Allred rolled under a parked minivan after she was hit, Willis said.
A police officer and two people nearby lifted the van so she could be pulled free.
Monroe police investigating the accident took measurements in the dark at the crash scene Thursday night. They were back on Friday with the Washington State Patrol to continue the investigation.
“It was obviously dark and there was a drizzle,” Willis said. “It was just beginning to rain.”
