Silvertips rally to beat Winterhawks 6-4

PORTLAND, Ore. — The Everett Silvertips seemed like they were in trouble.

But the Tips turned the tables on the Portland Winterhawks in the most dramatic fashion possible.

Everett scored five consecutive goals during a 10-minute stretch of the second period, coming from behind to defeat Portland 6-4 Sunday evening.

Carson Stadnyk had a goal and three assists to lead Everett, which rallied immediately after falling behind 3-1.

Graham Millar scored twice, Noah Juulsen had a goal and two assists, and Patrick Bajkov and Kevin Davis also scored for the Tips, who swept their two weekend road games against the four-time defending WHL Western Conference-champion Winterhawks and ran their winning streak to start the season to three.

Evan Weinger scored twice, and Chase De Leo and Anton Cederholm also scored for Portland, which has started the season with a five-game losing streak.

Both teams pulled their goalies during the game. Everett starter Carter Hart got the hook after allowing three goals on 14 shots. Austin Lotz relieved and earned the win, stopping 21 of 22. Portland’s Brendan Burke allowed all six goals on 24 shots through two periods. Adin Hill played the third and saved all 10 he faced.

It all was going wrong for Everett early in the second period. Portland scored with each of its first three shots of the period, turning a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 lead at 7:42 and sending Hart to the bench in favor of Lotz.

But the momentum immediately shifted. Juulsen scored with a deflected shot from the point just 22 seconds after the goalie change to get Everett back within one, and the Tips went on to score four more times before the period ended. Millar scored twice on the power play at 11:23 and 13:27, both times getting a tip on Juulsen blasts from the point. Davis got a point shot through traffic and past Burke at 14:26. Then Stadnyk finished it off at 18:03, breaking free on goal and putting in his own rebound off the glass behind the goal.

That spurt erased a three-goal Portland rally early in the period, as Weinger scored the first two goals of his WHL career at 1:45 and 5:10 to give Portland the lead, and De Leo scored at 7:42 to make it a two-goal game.
