EVERETT — Police on Tuesday arrested a registered sex offender accused of raping a woman at gunpoint.
A SWAT team served a warrant at a home in the 2300 block of Oakes Avenue around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday. The suspect, 44, was taken into custody without incident, Everett police officer Aaron Snell said.
The man is accused of giving the woman heroin at his home Sept. 19. He then allegedly tried to get the woman to engage in prostitution, but she refused, Snell said.
At that point, the man allegedly beat her with a stick, Snell said. Police believe he then raped her at gunpoint because he felt she disrespected him, Snell said.
The woman escaped, but when the man saw her a few days later he allegedly pointed a gun at her as he drove past.
The woman reported both incidents to police and detectives who investigated the allegations.
The suspect was convicted of indecent liberties by forcible compulsion in King County in 1994. In that case, he was accused of supplying an 11-year-old girl with alcohol and marijuana at a party and sexually assaulting her in a bedroom.
In 2008, he was convicted of failing to register as a sex offender.
