Progressive ideals belong to us all

A few weeks ago a writer warned that the Democrats have moved too far left, thus becoming the Democratic Socialist Party, citing several examples to illustrate his reasoning of doom.

Actually, most if not all the examples used were “progressive ideals” championed by Teddy Roosevelt, a Republican, and then by just about every president of both parties since the early 1900s. He sought to break up the stranglehold the financial sector held on society re: wealth redistribution and fought for worker’s rights re: leveling the playing field. Hey, how about 12-hour work days again?

The strengthening of our First and Fourth Amendment rights re: social justice and the civil rights laws re: social equality combines to create a place where people the world over want to live. Are we all progressive socialists for believing in the ideals of our founding fathers, established in the Constitution and until recently, usually upheld by the Supreme Court whenever push came to shove? Aren’t these the things we pledge to the republic, for which it stands? Interesting footnote; nothing’s in there about the rights of money, read as people with it exercising control.

It’s ironic, if not freaking humorous, the writer used an elephant when tagging the problems besetting us today though it also wearing a cute little tea hat would’ve completed the image. Maybe just some of us have been conned so far right aka self- righteousness, even a centrist’s position is too far left. Jesus would be a socialist! Drives you crazy … right?
