MUKILTEO — Quick thinking helped prevent a house fire in Mukilteo from spreading Sunday night, officials said.
Firefighters from Mukilteo, Lynnwood and Snohomish County Fire District 1 extinguished the blaze in the 5400 block of 111 Place SW shortly after 7 p.m.
Crews arrived to find flames coming from a bedroom window.
Someone inside opened the door to the bedroom, saw the flames and closed the door, Mukilteo assistant fire chief Brian McMahan said.
“The quick thinking of the resident to close the door helped stop the spread of flames throughout the house and evacuating everyone made a big difference from what this could have become,” McMahan said.
One person inside the home complained of illness and was taken to a local hospital.
A Mukilteo firefighter sustained a knee injury and was treated and released from Swedish/Mill Creek.
