Today is Geologic Map Day (pretty sure Hallmark doesn’t have this one).
In honor of the day (now in its third year, I’ll be darned), Washington and Oregon geologists have created a poster that offers a wholistic view of the Columbia River, that liquid highway that marks the border between our two states.
Washington State Geologist David Norman calls the river “a geologic and cultural treasure that has shaped the destinies of our two states.”
So, like, I guess it’s kinda important.
The map-poster blend — crafted by the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries and the Washington State Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Geology and Earth Resources — looks at the interplay of the geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and biosphere along the 309-mile river course (science teachers, I’m thinking of you).
And, it can be downloaded for free (beats the price of a card).
