Rock isn’t dead and Everett band Born Of Ghosts is here to prove it. It has been a long time coming for the band that started playing together five years ago, but this August they finally released their debut album Torch.
In the beginning it was just friends playing some music in a basement. After spending some time jamming and playing cover songs together years ago, Jacob Schmidt not only decided it was time to start a band but also that his brother Jesse was going to be the singer.
“It was something we didn’t really know in the family” Jacob said of his brother’s ability to sing.
“It took a while to get comfortable and have confidence in my voice because it was something that was very new to me” said Jesse.
The first time you see Born of Ghosts on stage it becomes clear that he got comfortable and confident. Same thing when you listen to their new album.
When listening to Torch it feels like a record you’ve always loved even though you’ve never heard it. While the influence of rock legends like Zepplin, Black Sabbath, The Doors and more are all over this record, Torch easily stands on its own.
The album opens with “Joyful Noise”, a sonic punch in the mouth, and doesn’t disappoint the rest of the way.
