Here’s a rundown of what Pete Carroll had to say about his team’s injury situation heading into this week’s game at Carolina.
The news is good on TE Luke Willson, who missed last week’s game with a groin injury, and CB Tharold Simon, who left the game in the second quarter with an ankle injury.
“We have a couple of guys that surprised us a little bit looking like they’re going to practice today,” Carroll said. “Luke Willson should be out there going, and Tharold Simon also. So that’s a good little boost for us, we were concerned about those guys. Now we’ve got to take them from day to day, but it’s good to have those guys back out there.”
With Derrick Coleman out for a while with a broken foot, it appears for now at least the Seahawks are going with running back Robert Turbin there. So far no fullback has been added to the roster.
Asked what the plan is this week at fullback, Carroll said, “You’ll have to wait and see. We’ll unveil that as we get there.”
And asked if Turbin showed enough in his fill-in appearance there last week, Carroll said, “Yes. Yeah, he did admirably, and he’s welcomed the challenge of taking care of business there for us. That’s a positive move for us, because he’s a really good football player and he’ll help us in other ways too.”
On CB Byron Maxwell, who missed Sunday’s game with a calf injury: “Byron will do some stuff, but we won’t see him practicing today, so we’ll just check it out and see how he is tomorrow.”
On C Max Unger, who has missed two games with a foot injury: “I just saw Max running right now, so he’s really on the track to getting back here, but we don’t know when yet.”
Carroll said it doesn’t look like Jordan Hill will make it back this week. He’s still hobbling around a little bit.
With Hill likely out and Cassius Marsh now on IR, the Seahawks will likely be down a man in their D-line rotation, even with Greg Scruggs involved: “Well, we’re a guy short there from what we were. We were developing Cassius’ role, so we do miss him. But we have some flexibility, we’re going to make sure we do a good job of keeping our guys fresh and paying a little more attention to that just so we keep our rotations like we like it. It got a little heavy for Michael (Bennett) and for Cliff (Avril), so we have our ways to do that.”
