Two new members join Future of Flight board in Mukilteo

The Future of Flight Foundation Board of Directors has two new members. Jeffery Van Dyck has been in the broadcast, branding and user interface design industries for 40 years and has volunteered at the Future of Flight for the past six years. Nicholas Patrick, a NASA astronaut for 14 years, flew on two space shuttle missions.

Mill Creek honors city employees

The city of Mill Creek held its annual Employee Appreciation Luncheon on Oct. 8 to thank all of the city employees and volunteers for their service. The city recognized Michele Miller for 20 years of service and Pam Olson for 15 years of service. Brian Davern was named the 2014 Employee of the Year.

Community Transit honors commuters

Gina Paterson-Bryant of Premera in Mountlake Terrace, Kelly Davis of Seattle Genetics in Bothell and the T-Mobile company in Bothell have all received Choice Connections Awards from Community Transit for making public transit, carpooling and biking play a primary role in their transportation choices. Car-free commuter Paterson-Bryant was named Smart Commuter of the Quarter. Davis is Employee Transportation Coordinator of the Quarter. T-Mobile is Employer of the Quarter.

Coat drive to benefit Clothes for Kids

Washington Energy Services has announced a local coat drive benefitting Clothes for Kids of Snohomish County. Coat donations are being accepted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday through Nov. 21 at the Washington Energy office located at 3909 196th St. SW in Lynnwood, one block west of I-5.

State allows boats to be dismantled over water with permit

Marine vessels may now be dismantled over the water under the terms of a new state permit. The new Vessel Deconstruction General Permit must be obtained prior to starting work. The Washington Department of Ecology developed the permit in response to the growing problem of deteriorating and sometimes abandoned vessels that pose risks to Washington waters and to public health and safety.

PEMCO: People more concerned with online theft

According to a PEMCO Insurance Northwest Poll, a majority of Northwest residents share at least somewhat of a concern that their identity could be stolen, but 82 percent of the Washington and Oregon residents polled say they use online banking services anyway. Fewer were concerned with old-fashioned crooks like mail thieves and trash scavengers although experts warn they remain dangerous.
