TULALIP — The state Department of Labor and Industries has reduced fines for the Battle Creek Golf Course for labor violations related to the March death of a worker.
The fines recently were reduced from $3,000 to $2,250 after the golf course appealed the original findings, according to documents in the case.
James “Jim” Pulliam, 58, died March 14 when the riding lawn mower he was using flipped over on top of him. He was a member of the Professional Golfers’ Association of America and was on the grounds crew.
The penalties were reduced in part because the golf course agreed not to seek further appeals, documents show.
The state maintains that the course did not provide proper training for crews on using heavy equipment, particularly on steep slopes, and on how to report maintenance problems with equipment.
